The signs are everywhere...the world is facing a climate crisis. Most recently, the Antarctica experienced its hottest day on record and the ice in that part of the globe is melting faster than ever before. There are many other examples but instead of continuously talking about the problem, we thought it would be better to do something positive and help to to wards a solution instead.
That’s why we are have partnered with Oblong Trees to play our part in helping to reduce our carbon footprint and help improve our planet.
KeriKit’s partnership with Oblong Trees
Like many other companies, our manufacturing activities, regrettably, result in CO2 emissions. While we can’t calculate the extent of our carbon footprint created in the production, shipping, and delivery of each our bags, we can help offset the amount by planting trees with the help of Oblong.
Here is how that works:
We will plant two trees for every sale of a KeriKit product. A single tree can remove 1 tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere in 40 years. With two trees per sale, we can expect one bag to do the same in 20 years. But that figure can be cut down to just 10 years if you give us a helping hand. That’s right, if you choose to match our contribution by donating just two trees at checkout, each sale will result in four trees being planted. Furthermore, the trees planted can go on to further offset and neutralize the carbon footprint in the future.
We have decided to plant a minimum of 60 trees per month here at KeriKit HQ.
Here is the breakdown of where these will be planted for the time being:
- United Kingdom: 2 trees
- Australia: 2 trees
- Mount Kenya Farms: 14 trees
- Mount Kenya Rainforest: 14 trees
- Malawi Farms: 14 trees
- Malawi Communities: 14 trees
This is just the minimum and this is our commitment even if we don't make a sale. However we are so excited to announce that in our first month we have received match funding for 128 trees which brings the total for our first month to 206 trees!!!
We aren't sure what we expected but we are really thrilled to achieve this number and we want to thank you all for getting involved with our match funding initiative.

About Oblong Trees
Oblong (UK) Ltd are a data processing business trusted by large blue chip companies to improve their business data. They tried to calculate their carbon footprint and find a responsible supplier to help them become carbon neutral.
They found the experience confusing (as did we!) and often the information was unclear and contradictory. Companies need to be able to quickly and easily offset their carbon emissions, without being put off by the complications of calculating an accurate carbon footprint, without breaking the bank and without having to investigate suppliers to see if they are trustworthy.
They decided to create a simple solution available to everyone, one that doesn't waste more time and money calculating a carbon footprint, but just allows us to make a difference immediately.
