What To Pack In A Hospital Bag For Mums-To-Be

When preparing for the birth of your baby, there are a lot of things to think about from stocking your freezer with meals to buying all the things you will need for your newborn. One thing to remember to do is pack your hospital bag, so when you do go into labour, you will have one less thing to worry about. Here are some things mums-to-be will need to bring for themselves.

Hospital notes

Labour is the most natural thing in the world, but you might still want to be as prepared for it as possible. Make sure you have your birth plan and labour notes to hand when you go into the hospital, so medical staff can access relevant information about your pregnancy as quickly as they can, and provide you with the type of childbirth you desire, if possible.

Massage equipment

Something many women find helpful is to receive a massage if they are suffering from back pain during labour. Bringing a massage ball or lotion could be effective, and help relieve some pain. Tens machines are also known to be a good source of natural pain relief, so it is worth hiring one from your hospital if you can.

Comfortable clothes

Whether you have time to change for childbirth or not, you will want something comfortable to wear afterwards so make sure you pack loose clothing, including a nighty, nursing bras, dressing gown and slippers. If you want to go into a birthing pool, you might want to bring a bikini or tankini top as well.

Overnight things

You don't know how long you will have to stay in hospital for after labour, so make sure you pack enough toiletries, nightwear, and entertainment, such as books, magazines and music, to last you a few days.

Snacks

Many people say labour is like a marathon, which means by the end you are exhausted and depleted of energy. Pack some healthy snacks both for labour and afterwards, so you can slowly restore your energy to look after your newborn baby.
