Christmas is an expensive time of the year for everyone, with people spending money on gifts, nights out, and food and drink over the holiday season. However, more and more Brits are budgeting for travel, whether they are looking to escape during the festivities or are making a journey to stay with friends or family for Christmas Day.
The latest findings from American Express revealed we will have spent an average of £1,206 each once the Yuletide season is over, which amounts to a huge £60 billion across the entire UK.
While presents make up the bulk of this expenditure at £295 for every adult, a significant amount of money will have been spent on travel as well.
According to the report, Brits will have paid £237 for getaways outside of the UK; £174 will go towards holidays within the country; and people will typically spend £66 on train or coach tickets to visit family or friends.
Director at the credit card provider Stephen Steinhardt reminded customers of the importance of watching how much they spend, saying: “Whether it’s taking time to choose the perfect gift, or deciding where to take a trip to escape the chill, it’s wise to plan your spending for this busy time of the year.”
Of course, if you are travelling, it is not just your finances you should prepare carefully, but your packing.
The first thing to do is use a luxury leather travel bag that will not only fit in all your presents, clothes and toiletries, but will withstand a lot of handling throughout the busy season.
