WiganMum blogger Jodie tells us about her love affair with changing bags and we totally agree…
“I’ve always been a bag kinda girl, when I became a mother nothing changed, I just turned my obsession over to changing bags.”
Over the span of my daughter’s short life (22 months) I have gone through a lot of bags and today I counted up just how many different changing bags I’ve had. The total surprised even me. I am currently on my 10th changing bag! That’s absolutely crazy as that’s basically a different bag every 2.2 months, I hope that my husband doesn’t read this or else I will be in trouble!
With this realisation I sat down and wrote a list of them all and I immediately noticed a pattern, the next bag along was usually more expensive and luxurious than the last. I added up the totals and I have spent in excess of £500 on changing bags, I’ve had a long search for ‘the one’ as each one never ticked all the boxes for me, there was always something missing and looking back now I wish that I done things differently. I wish that I had done my research by reading reviews and looking elsewhere than the high street, I know now that I should have just splashed the cash early and bought a leather changing bag. I wouldn’t have thought it at the time as they initially seemed too expensive but I could have actually saved myself money in the long run. Now that I have a leather bag I know that I will never go back to a none leather one, It is better in every way and I use it daily whether I’m with my daughter or not. I like being able to go to baby groups and I know that I’m the only one with a certain brand of bag and I like seeing it admiring and being asking where I got it from. Most important of all though I like how it makes me feel, it just makes me feel good. I can go out in a un-ironed top and un-brushed hair if I wanted to. I’m happier in myself and I feel fashionable again.
I originally started out with a very well known brand of bag but I soon got bored and lost interest in it due to how popular it is. Whenever I went to a baby group or soft play centre I would look around and about 80% of the other mothers would all have this same brand of bag. I felt like I had lost my identity. There is nothing wrong with these popular bags but it just wasn’t “me” and I knew there must be something better out there, a bag that made me feel like Jodie again and not Sophia’s Mum. It’s surprising the impact of having a luxury bag can have on you as it gives me that little spring in my step and makes me feel more put together. I know that a leather changing bag is a investment piece and that it will only look and feel better with age. I know that I will be using mine for many years to come as it can double as a work or gym bag, most have room for a laptop so it really is a no brainer.
I say to you ladies choose wisely and don’t make the same mistake as me if you can help it. Just get what makes you feel good as you deserve it. -Jodie x
