Not all heroes wear capes, and this is certainly true when you consider the modern day working mother. She epitomises multitasking whilst remaining calm and collected (or at least seeming to). Not only is she a top mummy with seemingly endless time for her kids, she’s also kicking ass in the boardroom – a business womum if you will. How does she do it? Here are her top 5 secrets.
Compartmentalise your life
Having a career and a baby are by no means incompatible, but in order for you give your all to both its best to keep them separate. As beautiful as their creation may be, you really don’t want your toddler contributing to your business proposal with crayon, and you certainly don’t want to be rooting through nappies and Hot Wheelz cars in your business meeting. The KeriKit luxury leather changing bag with an Internal Removable Organiser helps you switch seamlessly from mother to working woman while remaining chic and fashionable. Tackle one job at a time
This is one of my mums favourite proverbs and it’s very Forrest Gump. Life is like a whole salami: if you try and eat it all in one go you’ll just feel sick, but cut it into slices and its actually quite enjoyable. Although my mum isn’t exactly profound she’s right. Thinking about all the jobs you have to do today can seem overwhelming, but if you can teach yourself to just focus on the job in front of you it seems much more manageable and maybe even enjoyable. Besides, worry is just wasted energy. I recommend having a work-space at home where you won’t be tempted to just try and pair some socks or hang some washing up. This space will correspond with your mental head-space so when you are in business mode you really are in business mode, and baby brain will be tamed. It will.
Look the part
This one is a bit of an indulgence, but how are you meant to feel like a boss when you don’t look like one?? That’s how I justified this purchase anyway; its all mental. I love this Ted Baker power coat, its smart whilst still being feminine and I just know I’m going to have a good day in it. It looks great with my Aryella Cognac luxury leather changing bag too. Who needs a PA when you have an Apple Watch?
Even when you’ve got your hands full with the kids you can still check your messages on the go without having it invade your personal life with the Apple Watch. They are highly capable with the ability to answer calls, check your emails, use Apple Pay and even track your fitness and heart rate. Apple have even collaborated with Hermés in designing a range of handmade leather straps, combining fashion with function. So leave your Blackberry at home and go and enjoy watching your little one’s swimming lesson in peace, knowing that you will be notified if that important email comes through.
Learn to switch off
Although it’s easier said than done, switch off from work worries and when you’re in mum mode be in mum mode and indulge in it. These days are precious and kids grow up frighteningly quick, you don’t want to miss them.
Most importantly, remember that you’re a hero, even if you don’t wear a cape. So put your feet up at the end of the day or treat yourself to a bubble bath, you certainly deserve it.
Thanks to Ted Baker and Apple for imagery.
