Its so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life that before you know it BAM – you’re stuck in a rut. According to experts, novelty is the key to maintaining attraction, so put the kids to bed and treat yourself to some much deserved alone time with each other. Scotty and I allocate one night a month to our official date night and I love it; we can reverse the clock and live it up like its 1 year B.C. (Before Children – that’s honestly what it stands for). Here are our favourite ideas to give you some inspiration:
Re-live the way you met
This one is a must and a great reminder for why you actually chose to procreate with your partner which can easily be lost sight of amidst some hearty parental bickering. Many of my friends met in a dingy bar at uni which doesn’t exactly sound appealing these days but trust me when you recreate it its totally romantic.
2. Road-Trip and a Posh Hotel
Its very easy to forget to make effort for each other, and my mother always used to say that if you don’t flirt with your man then someone else will! So throw your glad rags into an overnight bag and treat yourself to a luxury night away in a hotel. Sign up to Secret Escapes for some absolute steals, whether you’re after a city break or spa retreat in the countryside. Even better is the road trip there – just sitting in a car and not having to swivel round in your seat every 5 minutes to stop world war three breaking out between the twins in the back is pure bliss.
3. Nights in can be fun too
Heels and make up just don’t seem appealing after a long day of mumming and so I’m quite partial to a cheesy night in. It also means we don’t have to hire a babysitter and have a curfew which is certainly a bonus. Why don’t you try making your own homemade cinema, or have a regression session and get out the board games and make a mess in the kitchen. My personal favourite is a boozy bubblebath for two with some indulgent suds like this soothing bath oil from ESPA – just make sure you don’t get stuck with the tap end.
4. Who said it had to be night time?
Having the kids in play school is a perfect window of opportunity for a date – the housework can be a problem for the future-you. Why not meet each other for brunch after the school run or even be a stranger in your own city for the day? The KeriKit Joy backpack is the perfect bag to change with you from parenting to a day out exploring with your partner so get Googling your next day out and just be back in time for pick up at half past 3…
